In order to navigate an intricate and fast-changing digital economy, MDEC puts together a management team that boasts extensive knowledge in many areas of our business. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives from the Government and corporate sectors.
The Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for the country’s tech-led initiatives, be it in terms of direction, strategic supervision, or management. With their blend of diversity and high-level expertise, there is no better team to guide MDEC towards a tech-led economy.
YBhg. Datuk Yasmin Mahmood was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), effective 15 September 2014. She was appointed to the Board on 19 January 2015.
Her career prior to joining MDEC includes leadership positions such as Executive Director of YTL e-Solutions Bhd., Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Regional Manager of Dell Asia Pacific and General Manager of HP Sales Malaysia.
YBhg. Dato' Mathialakan Chelliah is MDEC's Company Director and was appointed to the Board on 19 January 2015.
He has served the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) for more than 30 years in various capacities and senior positions. From 1988 - 2008, he served in several MIDA overseas offices in Zurich, Berne, Milan and London to promote Malaysia as a potential investment location for European companies and to assist them to prepare their business models.
YBrs. En. Steve Hsia is currently the co-Founder and CEO of Young Outliers, Inc. and was appointed to the Board on 27 January 2015. Steve is an active Internet business angel investor focusing in Silicon Valley and Asia with various experiences with digital agencies, talents and start-ups.
YBrs. Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai was appointed to the Board on 22 August 2016.
Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai started his career in the Sabah State Civil Service in 1980. From 1983 until 1989 he was with Sabah Energy Corporation/Sabah Gas Industries Sdn. Bhd. holding various positions.
Prior to his early retirement, Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai was the CEO of IIB Insurance Brokers Sdn. Bhd. In addition to that he was also a Board member with KKIP Communications Sdn. Bhd, the operator of Sabah Net. He currently sits on the Board of Progressive Insurance Bhd.
YBhg. Datuk Bazlan Osman was appointed on the Board of Directors of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), effective 22 February 2018.
He is currently the Executive Director and Acting Group CEO of Telekom Malaysia Berhad, and oversees the operations of TM's main business clusters. He sits on the board of several subsidiaries within the TM Group, including Webe Digital Sdn Bhd, VADs Berhad and is also the Chairman of Fiberail Sdn Bhd.
YBhg Dato' Dr. Mohd Ali Bin Mohamad Nor was appointed on the Board of Directors of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), effective 5 October 2018.
Currently the Secretary General for the Ministry of Communications & Multimedia Malaysia. He has a PhD in Technology Management from University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and has served with the Government of Malaysia as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) for over 32 years.
He is experienced in project management involving ICT and telecommunications projects such as High School-Net and High-Speed Broadband (HSBB), and has been directly involved in policy formualtion, including the the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
YBrs. Pn. Afidah Azwa Binti Abdul Azizwas appointed on the Board of Directors of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), effective 16 October 2018.
She was appointed as PUNB Board member effective 19 November 2015. She served as the alternate Board member since 2013, and currently she is the Deputy Undersecretary for the Investment Evaluation Section in the Strategic Investment Division of the Ministry of Finance since August, 2017. She is also a TEKUN Nasional Board Member, which she has been a part of since 15 October 2015.
Puan Afidah began her career in the banking industry in 2000 after graduating from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a Bachelor Degree in Economics in 1999. In 2009, she graduated with a Master degree in Development Economics from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).
